Highlight Your Products by Tagging Them on Instagram
If you have something to sell, you might as well do it on Instagram. Thanks to the rise of influencer marketing and social platforms like Instagram, tagging products in posted content has become one of the best ways for ecommerce websites to sell their products. Just like tagging a friend or another account in one of your posts, you can tag one of the products for sale on your website. When one of your followers clicks on the product mentioned in the post, they will be redirected to your ecommerce marketplace where they can make a purchase in just a few minutes. This way, your customers won’t have to search for the products they’re looking for on your website after seeing them on Instagram. One click and they’ll be in the right place, simplifying the buying process.
If you’re not sure how to tag products on Instagram, use our guide to get started.
Step One: Connect to/Setup a Product Catalog
To get started, you’ll need to create a product catalog either on Facebook. You’ll be asked a few questions about your business and the products you sell. You’ll also need to upload photos of your products. If you already have an ecommerce marketplace like Shopify or OpenCart, Facebook can automatically import all your products and relist them on Facebook. Make sure you add high-quality photos of your products to attract as many potential customers as possible.
Step Two: Sign Up for Shopping on Instagram
Next up, you’ll need to enable or sign up for the “Shopping” feature on Instagram. You’ll need to have a business account on Instagram to use this feature, so switch over to a business account if you haven’t done so already. It only takes a few seconds and you won’t lose any of your previously published posts or content. Find the “Business” tab and click on the “Shopping” feature to get up and running. The app will then review your application, which could take a few days or longer depending on the nature of your account, so try to be patient.
Once you get approved, Instagram will send you a message telling you you’re free to start tagging products in your posts.
Step Three: Find a Photo or Video to Post on Instagram
You can’t tag products in your posts if you don’t have anything to post to begin with. Find or take a high-quality photo or video that shows off your products. It should be a high-definition photo with a clear image of the product in question. Start a new post on Instagram, choose the video or photo you want to share, add filters, and a caption.
Step Four: Tag Your Products in the Post
Before you actually publish the post, tap the products featured in the post and start typing the name of the products you want to tag as they’re listed in your ecommerce store. You should see a list of products from your store pop up. Pick a product from the list of options, and you’re good to go. For videos, a menu will appear where you can select up to five products to tag. You can feature up to five products per post, and up 20 products on multi-image posts.
Don’t forget to go back through your old posts and tag products that you missed the first time around. You could see a boost in sales once you start tagging your products on a regular basis. Start tagging your products on Instagram today to convert your followers into paying customers.
